Revelation - Introduction One

As we begin to study the book of “Revelation”, it is important to set some ground work as we approach this book. This book was written by John the Apostle around 90 a.d. after being boiled in oil and exiled to the Island of Patmos for his faith and belief in Jesus Christ. He survived each of these and penned this fantastic “revelation” given to him by an angel. We begin our study with the first verse and learn what “Revelation” actually means.

The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to show unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:

We begin by noting the first two words of the book, “The Revelation”. “Revelation” is the Greek word “apokalypsis” and means “be revealed, manifestation, coming, lighten and unveiling”. Though many believe the meanings in this book are hidden and secret, and certainly no one knows all of the aspects within it, there is a “revealing” God desires for His believers to know.

The idea of an “unveiling” is like unto when a statue that has previously been unseen by the public has a covering over it. The “Day of Unveiling” arrives and with all the pomp and circumstance available, the time comes for the statue to be “revealed”. The covering is lifted and everyone sees the work of the artist. This “Revelation of Jesus Christ” is the “unveiling” of things God desires for all who believe in His Son Jesus to know, and when we dedicate ourselves to the study of this book, the sure blessing of the Lord God shall be upon us.

Next time we shall learn about three blessings that are associated with this book, so read the first few verses, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…

  1. Revelation is going to be a great journey. I'm excited about it. Will Jesus return before you finish?
