Ask, Seek, Knock Matthew 7:7

Matthew shared how Jesus told His disciples, Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you shall be judged: and with what measure you mete, it shall be measured to you again. And why behold you the mote that is in your brother's eye, but consider not the beam that is in your own eye? Jesus continued, “Or how will you say to your brother, Let me pull out the mote out of your eye; and, behold, a beam is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of your own eye; and then shall you see clearly to cast out the mote out of your brother's eye.” Jesus added, “Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you”, and in chapter seven and verse seven of his book, Matthew shared how Jesus told His disciples to, “ask, seek and knock” where we read:

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:

The verse reads, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; Matthew began with the word, “ask” or “beg, call for, crave, desire and require”, “and it shall be given you” which means “and what is asked for will be bestowed, granted, supplied and furnished”; “seek” or “aim for, find out by reasoning, demand and crave”, “and you shall find” which means “and the disciples will learn, discover, understand and recognize”. Jesus told His disciples to “crave and desire” from God, and they would receive what they asked, and they were told to “crave and find out by reasoning” and they would learn, discover, understand and recognize” that for which they are looking.

The verse continues, knock, and it shall be opened unto you.” Matthew added the word, “knock” or “rap with a heavy blow”, “and it shall be opened” which means “that upon which they knock will be opened up” “unto you” or “toward the disciples”. Jesus promised what the disciples knocked upon would be “opened” if they would “knock” upon it.

When we consider Matthew's words in this verse, we see how Jesus wanted His disciples to be “asking, seeking and knocking”, and the results would be left to God. The idea was to be continually “asking, seeking and knocking”, and God promises to respond to His “disciples” when they do. Since God desires a relationship with everyone, they become His disciples by receiving Him as their “Savior and Lord”, and May all receive Jesus may “ask, seek and knock” and receive.

Next time Jesus tells His disciples what happens to, “everyone who asks...seeks...and knocksand more, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
