Where is Your Treasure? Matthew 6:21

Matthew shared how Jesus told His disciples, Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust does corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal. But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust does corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal”, and in chapter six and verse twenty-one of his book, Jesus told His disciples that their “heart” is, “where” their treasure is” where we read:

For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

The verse reads, For where your treasure is, ... Matthew began with the word, “for” which means “because, since, on account that and consequently” “where your treasure is” or “the place the disciples' storehouses, repositories, magazines and collected valuables exists”. Jesus referred to place “where” the disciples kept their “valuables”.

The verse continues, “... there will your heart be also.” Matthew added the words, “there will” or “at that place shall” “your heart” which means “the disciples' the soul or mind as it is the fountain and seat of the thoughts, passions, desires, appetites, affections, purposes and endeavors” “be also” or “exists even so and indeed”. Jesus told His disciples their “soul and mind” would be wherever they had their “treasure”.

When we meditate upon Matthew's words in this verse, we see how the disciples' “treasure” revealed the place of their “hearts and minds”. A person's focus determines whether they “treasure” things of the “earth” or the things in “heaven”. “Earthly” things are temporary, and “heavenly” things are eternal. God desires to have people receive His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”, and when they submit their lives to Him, their “treasure” is to be upon the eternal “Kingdom of Heaven”. Let all who read these words examine where they place their “valuables”, and should they be found “temporary” and “earthly”, let them be set aside to invest in the “eternal” “heavenly” “kingdom”.

Next time Jesus tells His disciples “the light of the body is the eye, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
