Blasphemy Against the Holy Ghost - Matthew 12:31

Matthew the apostle wrote Jesus told the Pharisees, if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you. Or else how can one enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house. He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathers not with me scatters abroad”, and in chapter twelve and verse thirty-one of his book, Matthew shared how Jesus about, the blasphemy against the Holy Ghostwhere we read:

Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.

The verse reads, Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: Matthew began with the word, “wherefore” which means “by means of and through this” “I say” or “Jesus uttered, proclaimed and declared” “unto you” which means “to the Pharisees”, “all manner of sin” which refers to “each, every, the whole and everyone of the ways of missing the mark, wandering from the path of righteousness and honor, doing wrong, being mistaken and in violation to God's law” “and blasphemy” or “and slander, detraction, injurious speech and evil speaking” “shall be forgiven” which means “will be sent away, let go, let alone, disregarded and kept no longer” “unto men” or “toward human begins whether male or female”. Matthew share how Jesus told the Pharisees that “every sin” would be “forgiven” by God.

The verse goes on to say, but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. Matthew continued with the word, “but” which means “nevertheless, moreover and” “the blasphemy” or “slander, detraction, injurious speech and evil speaking” “against the Holy Ghost” or “in opposition to, apart, aside and separated from the third person of the triune God, the Holy Spirit, coequal, co-eternal with the Father and the Son” “shall not be forgiven” which means “will not be sent away, let go, let alone, disregarded and kept no longer” “unto men” or “toward human beings whether male or female”. Matthew shared how Jesus gave one exception to “all” sin being forgiven, and that “sin” is to “speak against and contrary to” God's Holy Spirit.

When we think through Matthew's words in this verse, we discover one of the most ominous verses in the whole Bible. This is the unpardonable sin. “Blasphemy” against God's Holy Spirit will not be “forgiven” by God, and those who violate this law shall never be allowed entry into God's eternal Heaven. Most people wonder, what exactly does this mean? The gospel of John in chapter sixteen and verse thirteen helps us with this question. Jesus said, Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come.” Jesus said the Holy Spirit's job is to “testify” of Him, and when the Holy Spirit brings that truth to a person's heart and mind and they reject and refuse to receive Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”, they have “blasphemed” God's Holy Spirit. God does not want this to be so, and He was sure to put this warning in the Bible for all to read. If the Holy Spirit is speaking to one's heart to receive Jesus as the Messiah Savior of the world, the best choice is to accept Him. Otherwise, “blasphemy” against the Holy Spirit has taken place, and according to Jesus, there is no forgiveness for that sin.

Next time Matthew shares what Jesus says, “whoever speaks against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
