Who are Jesus' Mother and Brothers? - Matthew 12:48

Matthew the apostle wrote while Jesus, yet talked to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, desiring to speak with him. Then one said unto him, Behold, your mother and your brethren stand without, desiring to speak with you.”, and in chapter twelve and verse forty-eight of his book, Matthew shared how Jesus asked, “who is my mother? And who are my brethren?” where we read:

But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren?

The verse reads, But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? Matthew began with the word, “but” which means “moreover and” “he answered” or “Jesus began to speak, answered and responded” “and said” which means “and uttered, declared and proclaimed” “unto him” or “toward the man who told Jesus His mother and brothers were looking for Him”, “who” which means “which person” “is my mother” or “is Jesus' mother”? Matthew shared how Jesus responded to the man who told Him His mother and brothers were outside desiring to talk with Him by asking the question as to “who is” His “mother”.

The verse continues, and who are my brethren? Matthew continued with the words, “and who” which means “and which persons” “are my brethren” or “are Jesus' brothers”? Matthew shared how Jesus added the question as to “who” His “brothers” are.

When we meditate upon Matthew's words in this verse, we realize that Jesus has something else in mind other than knowing who His “mother and brothers” are. Mary was Jesus' earthly mother, and His brothers were “brothers” on earth. God desires a spiritual family, and He sent His Son Jesus to provide a means by which every person has the opportunity to receive Him as “Savior and Lord”. When they do, they become a part of the family of God, and that family lasts for all eternity. May all who read these words receive Jesus today and become Jesus' “mother and brothers” in Him.

Next time Matthew shares how while Jesus tells the man, “behold my mother and my brethren”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
