Come to Jesus If You're Weary - Matthew 11:28

Matthew the apostle shared how Jesus said, “All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knows the Son, but the Father; neither knows any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him”, and in chapter eleven and verse twenty-eight of his book, Matthew shared how Jesus said, “come unto me” where we read:

Come unto me, all you that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

The verse reads, Come unto me, all you that labor and are heavy laden, ...” Matthew began with the words, “come” which means “follow” “unto me” which refers to “Jesus”, “all you” or “each, every, the whole and everyone of the multitude around Jesus” “that labor” which means “who grow weary, tired and toil with wearisome effort and bodily work” “and are heavy laden” or “and are loaded down with burdens”. Matthew shared Jesus' invitation for people who are “weary, tired and loaded down with burdens” to follow after Him.

The verse goes on to say, “... and I will give you rest.” Matthew continued with the words, “and I will give you” which means “and Jesus will grant, bestow, provide, furnish and supply to those who come to Him” “rest” or “refreshment, quiet, calm and patient expectation”. Matthew shared how Jesus promised those who “come to” Him will be granted “refreshment, quiet and calm”.

When we think through Matthew's words in this verse, we see how Jesus recognizes that people “grow weary” and “are loaded down with burdens”, and His desires is to provide “refreshment and calm” to them. God loves people, and when they are burdened down and tired, He knows they need the refreshment He is able to provide through His Son Jesus. Should there be one who is tired, oh so tired, or burdened, oh so burdened, who is reading these words, be wise, and come to Jesus who will give you “rest”.

Next time Matthew shares how Jesus says, “take my yoke upon you, and learn of me”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
