The Gentiles Trust in His Name - Matthew 12:21

Matthew the apostle wrote how, great multitudes followed” Jesus, “and he healed them all; And charged them that they should not make him known: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying, Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall shew judgment to the Gentiles. He shall not strive, nor cry; neither shall any man hear his voice in the streets. A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto victory”, and in chapter twelve and verse twenty-one of his book, Matthew shared how Jesus said “the Gentiles” shall “trust”, “in his name” where we read:

And in his name shall the Gentiles trust.

The verse reads, And in his name ...” Matthew began with the words, “and in his name” which means “and within the Messiah's name which covers, everything the thought or feeling of which is aroused in the mind by mentioning, hearing and remembering”. Matthew completed Isaiah's prophesy by referring to how he prophesied the following would be done in the Messiah's “name”.

The verse goes on to say, ... shall the Gentiles trust. Matthew continued with the words, “shall the Gentiles” which means “with the heathen, nations, multitudes and people groups” “trust” or “hopefully expect and confide in”. Matthew shared how “the heathen and nations” will “trust” and have “faith in” the Messiah.

When we meditate upon Matthew's words in this verse, we realize the Messiah was sent to the entire world. Heathens and non-believing nations would hear of the Messiah and have “faith and trust” in Him. “God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believes in him, should not perish, but have everlasting life”. (John 3:16) This means that every person, regardless of where they are from, may receive Jesus Christ as the Messiah, “Savior and Lord”. Jesus will “save” all who come to Him, and even though they are “heathen” in nature, He came to give them “everlasting life”.

Next time Matthew shares how there, “was brought unto him one possessed with a devil”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
