Mark wrote, “it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan. And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him. And there came a voice from heaven, saying, You are my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. And immediately the Spirit drove him into the wilderness. And he was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted of Satan; and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto him”, and in chapter one and verse fourteen of his book, Mark wrote what happened, “after that John was put into prison” where we read:
Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee,
preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,
The verse reads, “Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee,” Mark began words, “now after that John” which means “in the time behind John the Baptist” “was put in prison” which means “was delivered up, condemned and put into custody”, “Jesus” who is “the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation” “came into Galilee” which means “arose and appeared in the region of northern Palestine, bounded on the north by Syria, on the west by Sidon, Tyre, Ptolemais and their territories and the promontory of Carmel, on the south by Samaria and on the east by the Jordan. It was divided into Upper Galilee and Lower Galilee”. Mark shared how “John the Baptist” was incarcerated, and afterward “Jesus” went into the region of “Galilee”.
The verse continues, “preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God.” Mark added the words, “preaching the gospel” which means “heralding, proclaiming and publishing openly the good tidings and news” “of the kingdom” or “pertaining to the rule, royal power, kingship and dominion” “of God” which means “belonging to the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”. Mark shared how Jesus went about “heralding and proclaiming” the “good news” of God's Kingdom.
When we consider Mark's words in this verse, we see the beginning of Jesus' “preaching” of the “gospel” of God's Kingdom. This was His purpose, plan and desire so that all people would have an opportunity to “receive” Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”. Jesus continued the message of “John the Baptist” concerning “the Kingdom of God”, and He was the fulfillment of the “gospel” sent by God. People could be saved from their sins, and condemnation would no longer be their fate if they only trust and believe in Him. This is “good news”, and those who are wise shall submit their lives to Jesus Christ as their personal “Savior and Lord”.
Next time Mark writes, “the time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
