Matthew the apostle wrote, “In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulcher. And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow: And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men. And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not: for I know that you seek Jesus, which was crucified”, and in chapter twenty-eight and verse six of his book, Matthew wrote how the angel said, “He is risen, as He said” where we read:
He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
The verse reads, “He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. ” Matthew began words, “He is not here” which means “Jesus is not in this place”: “for he is risen” or “because, since and on account that Jesus is raised up from the dead, resurrected and arisen from the grave”, “as he said” which means “in the same manner and likeness as Jesus uttered, declared and proclaimed”. Matthew shared how the “angel” declared that Jesus was “resurrected from the dead” just like He said He would.
The verse goes on to say, “Come, see the place where the Lord lay.” Matthew continued with the word, “Come” or “approach hither and here”, “see the place” which means “view, perceive, know and become acquainted with by experience the location or portion of space” “where the Lord lay” or “wither he to whom a person or thing belongs, about which he has power of deciding; master and the title given to God the Messiah was buried, set and appointed”. Matthew shared how the “angel” instructed the “women” to look and see the location where Jesus was buried.
When we meditate upon Matthew's words in this verse, we see how this “angel” was commissioned to make the first announcement concerning the “resurrection” of Jesus Christ, and he made it to these “women” who were visiting Jesus' “grave” to honor and show their respects to Him. God knows the concerns of those who care for His Son Jesus, and those who recognize who He is and what He has done for them should yield their lives to “Jesus Christ” who came to die and pay the price for the “sins' of the world and be resurrected from the “dead” so they might live forever with Him.
Next time Matthew shares how the angel instructed the women to, “go quickly, and tell his disciples”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
