Mark wrote how Jesus', “fame spread abroad throughout all the region round about Galilee”, and in chapter one and verse twenty-nine of his book, Mark wrote, “they entered into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.” where we read:
And forthwith, when they were come out of the synagogue,
they entered into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.
The verse reads, “And forthwith, when they were come out of the synagogue, ...” Mark began words, “and forthwith” which means “and straightaway and immediately”, “when they were come out of” or “at the time and moment the people departed and left from out” “the synagogue” which means “the assembly of Jews formally gathered together to offer prayers and listen to the reading and expositions of the scriptures”. Mark shared what happened when Jesus and His disciples departed from their sacred “worship” place.
The verse goes on to say, “... they entered into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.” Mark continued with the words, “they entered into the house” which means “Jesus and His disciples came and made their appearance in the home” “of Simon and Andrew” or “of Simon whose name means a rock or stone and Andrew whose name means manly”, “with James and John” whose names mean “supplanter and Jehovah is a gracious giver” respectively. Mark shared how Jesus and His four disciples “entered” into “Simon's” house.
When we think through Mark's words in this verse, we see how Jesus and His four disciples moved to their new venue which was “Simon's house”. Jesus was constantly on the move in His ministry, and as we discover the beginning of His teaching and miracles, we see the “normal” transition from one venue to another. God's desire is to share His “gospel” with everyone, and when they understand Jesus is the Messiah, they do best when they allow Him into their lives just as “Simon” allowed Jesus to enter His home.
Next time Mark shares about Jesus how, “Simon's wife's mother lay sick of a fever”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
