Matthew the apostle wrote, “Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.And many women were there beholding afar off, which followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering unto him”, and in chapter twenty-seven and verse fifty-six of his book, Matthew wrote how among the women were, “Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee's children” where we read:
Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses,
and the mother of Zebedee's children.
The verse reads, “Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, ...” Matthew began words, “among which was Mary Magdalene” which means “their rebellion and a tower and refers to a woman for whom Jesus had cast out seven devils” (See Mark 16:9 and Luke 8:2)”, “and Mary the mother” which means “and Mary whose name means their rebellion and was the female progenitor” “of James” pr “belonging to James whose name means supplanter and was an apostle and brother of the apostle John commonly called James the greater or elder who was slain by Herod “and Joses” whose name means he will be sustained of Jehovah and was the son of Eliezer, in the genealogy of Jesus Christ”. Matthew shared how two of the women were identified as “Mary Magdalene” and “Mary” who was “James and Joses” mother.
The verse continues, “... and the mother of Zebedee's children.” Matthew added the words, “and the mother” or “and the female progenitor” “of Zebedee's children” or “a fisherman of Galilee, the father of the apostles James the Great and John, and the husband of Salome whose name means my gift”. The “mother of Zebedee's children” was also named among the women who watched Jesus' crucifixion from a distance. Matthew shared how the mother of “James and John” were watching Jesus be crucified from a distance.
When we consider Matthew's words in this verse, we discover the names of three of the women who were watching the crucifixion of Jesus. “Mary Magdalene” was a woman whom Jesus delivered of seven devils and was a prostitute before she met Jesus, and “Mary” the mother of “James and Joses” who was the wife of Cleophas, or rather Clopas, and the sister of the Virgin Mary and “the mother of Zebedee's children” or Salome. These women attended to Jesus and His disciples daily, and we can only imagine how they felt as they watched Jesus hang on the cross. God knew these women needed a “Savior”, and He allowed His Son to be crucified for their sins and every other person in the world. Those who yield their lives to Jesus shall have a personal relationship with God and will serve the Lord forever as we attend to His Kingdom.
Next time Matthew wrote how, “there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
