Mark wrote about Jesus, “in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed. And Simon and they that were with him followed after him. And when they had found him, they said unto him, All men seek for you”, and in chapter one and verse thirty-eight of his book, Mark wrote how Jesus said, “Let us go into the next towns” where we read:
And he said unto them, Let us go into the next towns,
that I may preach there also: for therefore came I forth.
The verse reads, “And he said unto them, Let us go into the next towns, ...” Mark began with the words, “and he said” which means “and Jesus uttered, declared and proclaimed” “unto them” or “to Simon and the other disciples”, “Let us go into” which means “Allow Jesus and His disciples to conduct themselves, be led away and directed toward” “the next towns” or “the adhering villages approximating in size and number of inhabitants to a city”. Mark shared how Jesus told His “disciples” they were to travel to nearby “dwelling places, habitations and abodes” of people.
The verse continues, “... that I may preach there also: for therefore came I forth.” Mark added the words, “that I may preach there also” which means “so Jesus might herald, proclaim and publish in that city as well”: “for therefore” which means “because, since and on account for this reason” “came I forth” or “Jesus appeared, arose and became public”. Mark shared how Jesus desired to make “declarations and proclamations” in the nearby towns because it was for this “reason” He came and revealed Himself.
When we meditate upon Mark's words in this verse, we see how Jesus desired to spread the “gospel” to areas all around them. Though the people in Capernaum were “looking for” Him, Jesus knew other people needed to hear God's “good news”. God desires for people all over the world to hear the “gospel” concerning His Son Jesus Christ who died for their sins and offers to them “everlasting life”. Those who are wise shall not only “hear” His “good news”, but will also yield their lives to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”.
Next time Mark shares how Jesus, “preached in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and cast out devils”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
