Be Not Afraid, Go Tell - Matthew 28:10

Matthew the apostle wrote how an angel said to the women who came to visit Jesus' grave, “Fear not: for I know that you seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goes before you into Galilee; there shall you see him: lo, I have told you. And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshiped him”, and in chapter twenty-eight and verse ten of his book, Matthew wrote how Jesus said, “be not afraid: go tell my brethren” where we read:

Then said Jesus unto them, Be not afraid:

go tell my brethren that they go into Galilee, and there shall they see me.

The verse reads, “Then said Jesus unto them, Be not afraid: Matthew began words, “then said Jesus” which means “at that time and moment Jesus, whose name means Jehovah is Salvation and is the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate, uttered, declared and proclaimed” “unto them” or “to the women”, “Be not afraid” which means “do not be put to flight, have fear or be seized with alarm”. Matthew shared how Jesus comforted the “women” by encouraging them not to have fear or be alarmed.

The verse goes on to say, go tell my brethren that they go into Galilee, and there shall they see me.” Matthew continued with the words, “go tell my brethren” or “depart and leave and declare and proclaim to Jesus' brothers in Christ” “that they go” which means “that the disciples should depart” “into Galilee” which means “into the region of northern Palestine, bounded on the north by Syria, on the west by Sidon, Tyre, Ptolemais and their territories and the promontory of Carmel, on the south by Samaria and on the east by the Jordan which means circuit”, “and there shall they see me” or “in Galilee Jesus' disciples would behold and look at Jesus”. Matthew shared how Jesus instructed the “women” to continue on the path directed by the angel to “tell his disciples” to “go to Galilee” where they would be able to “look upon” Him.

When we meditate upon Matthew's words in this verse, we see the compassion, care and mission of Jesus as He met these “women”. He knew the appearance of the “angel”, the “angel's words” and the news concerning Himself being alive would be overwhelming for the “women”, so Jesus gave them words of comfort while they clung to Him. Jesus encouraged them to continue with their message to His “disciples” because Jesus knows people, and His desire is to have a relationship with them that not only brings them comfort in this life, but also in life after death. By believing and trusting in Him, people may enjoy “abundant life” while they live on earth and “everlasting life” with God in their future.

Next time Matthew shares how, “some of the watch came into the city”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
