Matthew the apostle wrote how, “the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. And when they saw him, they worshiped him: but some doubted”, and in chapter twenty-eight and verse eighteen of his book, Matthew wrote how Jesus said, “all power is given unto me in heaven and in earth” where we read:
And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
The verse reads, “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, ...” Matthew began words, “and Jesus came” which refers to “the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation approached and appeared” “and spake unto them” or “and uttered, declared and proclaimed to His disciples”, “saying” or “uttering, declaring and proclaiming” the following. Matthew shared how Jesus approached His “disciples” and “declared” the following words to them.
The verse continues, “... All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.” Matthew added the words, “all power” or “each, every, the whole and everyone of the available authorities, liberties, rights, jurisdictions and strengths” “is given unto me” which means “is granted, bestowed, furnished and supplied to Jesus” “in heaven” or “in the region above the sidereal heavens, the seat of order of things eternal and consummately perfect where God dwells and other heavenly beings” “and in earth” which means “and in the arable land, ground, country, fixed boundaries, tract of land and territory”. Matthew shared how Jesus declared Himself to have “all” the “power” available in the world and in the heavenly region.
When we meditate upon Matthew's words in this verse, we understand that “every” “power” available is in the control of Jesus. This should encourage every “disciple” of Jesus that no matter what happens in their lives, Jesus is in control. God gave Jesus all authority, rights and jurisdictions, and those who are wise will submit their lives to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, and enjoy having a relationship with the “All-Powerful and Mighty” Son of the Living God.
Next time Matthew shares how Jesus says, “go you therefore, and teach all nations”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
