Your Sins be Forgiven - Mark 2:5

Mark wrote, “And again he entered into Capernaum after some days; and it was noised that he was in the house. And straightway many were gathered together, insomuch that there was no room to receive them, no, not so much as about the door: and he preached the word unto them. And they come unto him, bringing one sick of the palsy, which was borne of four. And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay”, and in chapter two and verse five of his book, Mark shares how Jesus said, “your sins be forgiven you” where we read:

When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, your sins be forgiven your.

The verse reads, “When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, ... Mark began with the words, “and when” which means “and at the time and moment” “Jesus saw their faith” or “the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate observed the conviction and belief within the men”, “he said” which means “Jesus uttered, declared and proclaimed” “unto the sick of the palsy” or “to the paralytic man”. Mark shared how Jesus observed the “conviction and belief” within the four men, and He said the following to the “paralytic” man.

The verse goes on to say, “... Son, your sins be forgiven you.” Mark continued with the word, “Son” which means “Child”, “your sins” or “the errors, mistakes, missing of the mark and wrongs of the paralytic man” “be forgiven you” or “leave, disregard and be remitted from the man”. Mark shared how Jesus spoke to the “paralytic man” concerning the “remittance” of His sins.

When we meditate upon Mark's words in this verse, we see how Jesus observed the “conviction and belief” of these four men, and it caused Him to speak to the “paralytic man” concerning His “spiritual condition”. These men brought their friend to Jesus for “physical healing”, but Jesus addressed His “spiritual need” first. Though Jesus could have easily addressed this man's “paralytic” condition, his “sinful” condition was eternal and the most important. God desires to help people in the best way, and though “temporary” healing and miracles may be needed, the “eternal assistance” is most important. Let us carefully consider Jesus' words to this man and allow Him to say the same words to all who “believe and trust” in Him as their “Savior and Lord” - “your sins be forgiven you”.

Next time Mark shares how there were certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
