Jesus Heals Simon's Mother in Law - Mark 1:31

Mark wrote as Jesus and his disciples, “were come out of the synagogue, they entered into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. But Simon's wife's mother lay sick of a fever, and anon they tell him of her”, and in chapter one and verse thirty-one of his book, Mark wrote how Jesus, “came and took her by the hand” where we read:

And he came and took her by the hand, and lifted her up;

and immediately the fever left her, and she ministered unto them.

The verse reads, “And he came and took her by the hand, and lifted her up; ... Mark began with the words, “and he came” which means “and Jesus approached Simon's mother in law” “and took her by the hand” or “and held, seized and carefully retained the woman by her hand”, “and lifted her up” which means “and raised, caused to rise and aroused her from a seat or bed”. Mark shared how Jesus took “Simon's” mother in law by her “hand” and “raised” her up.

The verse goes on to say, “... and immediately the fever left her, and she ministered unto them.” Mark continued with the words, “and immediately” which means “and straightaway and forthwith” “the fever left her” or “the heat within the woman's body departed from the woman”, “and she ministered” which means “and Simon's mother in law attended to, served and prepared food and drink” “unto them” which refers to “Jesus and His disciples”. Mark shared how the sickness within “Simon's” mother in law departed from her, and she prepared food and drink for them.

When we meditate upon Mark's words in this verse, we discover that Jesus had power over “sickness”. When Jesus was informed by the people in “Simon's” house concerning “Simon's” mother in law's “fever”, He moved toward her, took her by the hand and healed her. Her reaction was marvelous. She began to prepare food and drink for Jesus and His disciples, and when a person is “touched” by Jesus in their body or “spirit” and receive Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, they too desire to “serve” Jesus in response to His loving care.

Next time Mark shares what happened when Jesus, “brought unto him all that were diseased, and them that were possessed with devils”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
