Matthew the apostle wrote how an angel said to the women who came to visit Jesus' grave, “Fear not: for I know that you seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goes before you into Galilee; there shall you see him: lo, I have told you”, and in chapter twenty-eight and verse eight of his book, Matthew wrote how the women, “departed quickly from the sepulcher” where we read:
And they departed quickly from the sepulcher with fear and great joy;
and did run to bring his disciples word.
The verse reads, “And they departed quickly from the sepulcher with fear and great joy;” Matthew began words, “and they departed quickly” which means “and the women left and went out speedily and without delay” “from the sepulcher” or “apart from the place of the tomb or grave of Jesus” “with fear” which means “with exceeding alarm and reverence” “and great joy” which means “and massive and large gladness and cheerfulness”. Matthew shared how the “women” were “excited and cheerful” as they “speedily” left the gravesite of Jesus.
The verse continues, “and did run to bring his disciples word.” Matthew added the words, “and did run” or “and ran in haste” “to bring his disciples” which means “to proclaim, make known openly and declare to Jesus' students, pupils and attendants” “word” which means “tidings, report and announcement”. Matthew shared how the “women” hurriedly ran to Jesus' “disciples” to let them know the proclamation of the “angel”.
When we consider Matthew's words in this verse, we can imagine how excited these “women” were as they ran to Jesus' “disciples”. They had the greatest news that has ever been proclaimed, and they were God's chosen agents to announce this news to Jesus' disciples. “Jesus is Risen”, and He was to meet His “disciples” in “Galilee” . Jesus will also meet anyone who humbles themselves, turns from their sins and have belief and trust in Him to be their personal “Savior and Lord”. Let all who read these words hear the proclamation of these chosen “women”, “Jesus is Risen”. He is the Christ and the Son of the Living God.
Next time Matthew shares how Jesus says, “be not afraid: go tell my brethren”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
