Do What We Want You to Do Jesus - Mark 10:35

Mark wrote how Jesus and His disciples, “were in the way going up to Jerusalem; and Jesus went before them: and they were amazed; and as they followed, they were afraid. And he took again the twelve, and began to tell them what things should happen unto him, Saying, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be delivered unto the chief priests, and unto the scribes; and they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him to the Gentiles: And they shall mock him, and shall scourge him, and shall spit upon him, and shall kill him: and the third day he shall rise again”, and in chapter ten and verse thirty-five of his book, Mark shared how James and John asked Jesus, “we would that you should do for us whatsoever we shall desire” where we read:

And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, come unto him, saying,

Master, we would that you should do for us whatsoever we shall desire.

The verse reads, “And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, come unto him, saying, ... Mark began with the words, “and James” which means “and Jesus' disciple named James whose name means supplanter and was the son of Zebedee and brother to Jesus' disciple John” “and John” or “and Jesus' disciple whose name means Jehovah is a gracious giver and the brother to Jesus' disciple named James”, “the sons of Zebedee” which means “the male offspring and progeny of Zebedee whose name means my gift”, “come unto him” or “appeared, arose and came forth to Jesus”, “saying” which means “uttering, declaring and proclaiming” the following words. Mark shared how Jesus' disciples “James and John” appeared before Him asking the next words.

The verse goes on to say, ... Master, we would that you should do for us whatsoever we shall desire. Mark continued with the word, “Master” which means “teacher”, “we would that you should do for us” or “James and John have in mind, intend, desire and wish for themselves” “whatsoever” which means “whatever thing” “we shall desire” or “James and John ask, beg, call for and require”. Mark shared how “James and John” asked Jesus to grant to them whatever they wanted Him to do for them.

When we consider Mark's words in this verse, we discover the ambition of “James and John”, and although this may have seemed like an innocent request, we shall discover they were attempting to seek advantage over the other disciples. God the Father desires to have a relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and when they yield to Him as “Savior and Lord”, He chooses who will receive whatever they may request.

Next time Mark shares how Jesus answered, “what would you that I should do for you?” , so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
