Have Mercy on Me - Mark 10:47

Mark wrote how Jesus and His disciples, “came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging”, and in chapter ten and verse forty-seven of his book, Mark shared how Bartimaeus cried out to Jesus, “have mercy on me” where we read:

And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out,

and say, Jesus, you Son of David, have mercy on me.

The verse reads, “And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, ...” Mark began with the words, “and when” which means “and at the time and moment” “he heard” or “blind Bartimaeus was given the faculty for hearing, perceived, noticed and discerned” “that it was Jesus of Nazareth” which means “that the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation and was from the town of Nazareth which means one separated”, “he began to cry out” or “Bartimaeus started and commence to vociferate, speak with a loud voice and cry aloud”. Mark shared how “Bartimaeus” began to “shout aloud” when he perceived it was Jesus who was passing his way.

The verse continues, ... and say, Jesus, you Son of David, have mercy on me. Mark added the words, “and say” which means “and utter, declare and proclaim”, “Jesus” or “Son of God, Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation”, “you Son of David” which means “you offspring and progeny of King David of Israel”, “have mercy on me” or “be compassionate and show divine grace upon Bartimaeus himself”. Mark shared how “Bartimaeus” cried out for Jesus to have “compassion and grace” upon him whom he recognized as “King David's offspring”

When we meditate upon Mark's words in this verse, we see how “Bartimaeus” became greatly motivated to “cry out” when he heard Jesus was coming his way. “Bartimaeus” knew who Jesus was, and he believed if he could get Jesus' attention, Jesus could heal him. God wants people to be in a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus, and when they “call out” to Him, He is ready to “save” them and give them “everlasting life”.

Next time Mark shares how, “many charged him that he should hold his peace” , so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
