Mark wrote how, “they brought young children to” Jesus, “that he should touch them: and his disciples rebuked those that brought them. But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God”, and in chapter ten and verse fifteen of his book, Mark shared how Jesus said, “whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein” where we read:
Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child,
he shall not enter therein.
The verse reads, “Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, ...” Mark began with the word, “verily” which means “truly and surly” “I say unto you” or “Jesus utters, declares and proclaims to His disciples”, “whosoever” which means “whatever person whether male or female” “shall not receive” or “will refuse, reject and not accept” “the kingdom of God” which refers to “the royal power, kingship, dominion and rule belonging to the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit” “as a little child” or “like and similar to a small boy or girl” the following result would occur. Mark shared how Jesus began to teach doctrine concerning “not receiving” God's Kingdom like a “small child” does.
The verse goes on to say, “... he shall not enter therein.” Mark continued with the words, “he shall not enter” which means “that person whether male or female will not make entrance and come in” “therein” or “to the Kingdom of God”. Mark shared how anyone who “rejects and refuses” to “receive” God's Kingdom like a “small child” will not “enter” into it.
When we meditate upon Mark's words in this verse, we see a daunting directive from Jesus. In order for a person to “enter into God's Kingdom”, they must “receive and accept” it in the same manner as a “small child”. “Child-like” faith and humility must be employed to receive Jesus as one's personal “Savior and Lord”. Paul the apostle told a Philippian jailer, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved, and your house” (Acts 16:31), and those who “come to” Jesus must come like these “children” - in “faith and belief”. God wants everyone to be “saved”, however, only those who receive His Son Jesus in “humility and faith” will ever “enter” into His Kingdom.
Next time Mark shares how Jesus took the little children, “in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them” , so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
