Mark wrote how Jesus and His disciples, “were in the way going up to Jerusalem; and Jesus went before them: and they were amazed; and as they followed, they were afraid. And he took again the twelve, and began to tell them what things should happen unto him, ...”, and in chapter ten and verse thirty-three of his book, Mark shared how Jesus continue to share how, “they shall mock him, and shall scourge him, and shall spit upon him” where we read:
Saying, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be delivered unto the chief priests, and unto the scribes; and they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him to the Gentiles:
The verse reads, “Saying, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be delivered unto the chief priests, and unto the scribes;” Mark began with the word, “saying” which means “uttering, declaring and proclaiming”, “behold” or “look, lo, see and consider”, “we go up to Jerusalem” which means “Jesus and His disciples were traveling toward Jerusalem which means set you double peace”; “and the Son of man” or “and God's Son Jesus Himself” “shall be delivered” which means “will be given over treacherously” “unto the chief priests” or “to the high priests who previously discharged it and although disposed and continued to have great power in the State as well as the members of the families which were created, provided that they had much influence in public affairs”, “and unto the scribes” which means “and to the men who are learned in the Mosaic law and in the sacred writings who serve as interpreters and teachers”. Mark shared how Jesus began to tell His disciples how they were traveling to Jerusalem where He was to be “given over treacherously” to the “religious leaders” known as the “high priest” and “scribes”.
The verse goes on to say, “and they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him to the Gentiles:” Mark continued with the words, “and they shall condemn him to death” which means “and the religious leaders will give judgment, damn and judge Jesus worthy of death”, “and shall deliver him” or “and will give Jesus over treacherously” “to the Gentiles” or “foreign and heathen nations”. Mark shared how Jesus told His disciples how the “religious leaders” would “judge Him worthy of death” and “give Him over treacherously” to the “foreign and heathen” nations.
When we meditate upon Mark's words in this verse, we discover more of what Jesus said would happen to Him when they entered into Jerusalem. Jesus was to be “condemned” and judged to be “worthy of death”, and because the Jews were not able to commit capital punishment, they would “deliver” Him over to the “foreign nations”. God the Heavenly Father loves people so much that He sent His Son Jesus to die for the “sins” of all mankind, and this was to be part of that process. Those who yield their lives to Jesus so they may forever be with God.
Next time Mark shares how Jesus said, “they shall mock him, and shall scourge him, and shall spit upon him” , so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
