Mark wrote how, “the Pharisees came to him, and asked” Jesus, “Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife? tempting him. And he answered and said unto them, What did Moses command you?And they said, Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and to put her away. And Jesus answered and said unto them, For the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept”, and in chapter ten and verse six of his book, Mark shared how Jesus said, “God made them male and female” where we read:
But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female.
The verse reads, “But from the beginning of the creation ...” Mark began with the words, “But from the beginning” which means “however, nonetheless, nevertheless, moreover and at the origin and commencement” “of the creation” which “pertains to the founding, establishing and building of all things by God”. Mark shared how Jesus referred to the “origin” of all things as He continued to answer the “Pharisees” question concerning “divorce”.
The verse goes on to say, “... God made them male and female.” Mark continued with the words, “God made them” which means “the Godhead which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit produced, prepared, constituted, appointed and ordained” “male” or “human beings who were male in gender” “and female” which means “and human beings who were female in gender”. Mark shared how God appointed and ordained people to be either “male” or “female” according to His Divine Sovereignty.
When we consider Mark's words in this verse, we see how God decided “male” and “female” human beings would exist from the “origin” of Creation. Jesus referred to this as His continued to answer the Pharisees question concerning a “man putting away his wife”. Jesus has more to say about this subject in the next few verses, but suffice it for now to ponder who “made” a person's gender, and as we consider He is the “all-knowing” and Creator God who desires to be in a relationship with us through His Son Jesus, we can appreciate the gender He has given us “from the beginning”.
Next time Mark shares how Jesus added, “for this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
