What Do You Want Jesus to Do? - Mark 10:51

Mark wrote how Jesus and His disciples, “came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging. And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, you Son of David, have mercy on me. And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, You Son of David, have mercy on me. And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calls you. And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus”, and in chapter ten and verse fifty-one of his book, Mark shared how Jesus said to Bartimaeus, “what will you that I should do to you?” where we read:

And Jesus answered and said unto him, What will you that I should do unto you?

The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight.

The verse reads, “And Jesus answered and said unto him, What will you that I should do unto you?” Mark began with the words, “and Jesus” which refers to “the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation”, “answered and said unto him” or “responded and began to utter, declare and proclaim to Bartimaeus”, “what will you” which means “what do you Bartimaeus desire and wish” “that I should do unto you” or “for Me Jesus to perform in you Bartimaeus”. Mark shared how Jesus asked “Bartimaeus” what he wanted Him to do for him.

The verse continues, The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight. Mark added the words, “the blind man” which means “Bartimaeus who had opaque vision and could not see” “said unto him” or “uttered, declared and proclaimed to Jesus”, “Lord” which means “master, chief, prince or Rabboni”, “that I might receive my sight” or “that Bartimaeus would be able to see”. Mark shared how “Bartimaeus” wanted Jesus to give him “sight”.

When we meditate upon Mark's words in this verse, we see how “Bartimaeus'” desire was finally placed before Jesus. Though people were attempting to keep “Bartimaeus” from Jesus, he not only appeared before Jesus, but was able to make his request for sight known. This sort of persistence is favored by God, and when a person yields their life to His Son Jesus and ask Him to come into their life, their “spiritual blindness” will be healed and they will enjoy a personal relationship with God.

Next time Mark shares how Jesus tells Bartimaeus, “Go your way; your faith has made you whole” , so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
