You Know Jesus - John 7:28

The apostle John wrote how in the middle of the feast, and some of the people in Jerusalem asked about Jesus, “Is not this he, whom they seek to kill? But, lo, he speaks boldly, and they say nothing unto him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is the very Christ? Howbeit we know this man from where he is: but when Christ comes, no man knows from where he is”, and in chapter seven and verse twenty-eight of his book, John shared how Jesus proclaimed in the temple, “you both know me, and you know from where I am” where we read:

Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, You both know me, and you know from where I am: and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom you know not.

The verse reads,Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, You both know me, and you know from where I am:” John began with the words, “then cried Jesus” or “at that time shouted, loudly spoke the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation” “in the temple” which means “within the sacred worship in Jerusalem” “as he taught” or “while and during Jesus instructed, gave didactic discourses and imparted instruction”, “saying” which means “uttering, declaring and proclaiming”, “You both know me” or “you, people of Jerusalem equally perceive, discern, notice and ascertain who Jesus is”, “and you know from where I am” which means “and you perceive, discern, notice and ascertain the place and location from where Jesus exists”. John shared how Jesus began to “shout loudly” within the “temple” while He gave “instructions and didactic discourses” and proclaimed that the people in Jerusalem “perceived” who He was and from “where” He came.

The verse continues, and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom you know not.” John added the words, “and I am not come of myself” which means “and I, Jesus, have not arisen, become known and been established by His own self”, “but he that sent me” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover he, Father God, who dispatched and assigned me, Jesus” “is true” which means “exists as veracious, sincere, certain and sure”, “whom you know not” or “that you, people of Jerusalem, do not perceive, discern, notice or ascertain”. John shared how Jesus told the people listening to Him that He did not “arise and appear” on His own, but was “dispatched” by His Father God who is “true”, and He declared how the people did not “know” His Father.

When we consider John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus knew how to speak to the people who were listening to Him. He told them how they “knew” Him and from “where” He came, but they were only aware of His “earthly” origin and not His “Heavenly” one. God sent His Son Jesus to the earth to be the “Savior and Lord” of the world, and anyone who puts their “faith and trust” in Him will be forgiven of their sins and inherit everlasting life with His Father God. God is “true”, and for a person to “know” Him, they must accept His Son Jesus as the “Messiah and Son of God”. All others will be among those whom Jesus said, “whom you know not” when it comes to His Father God.

Next time John shares how Jesus says, “I know him: for I am from him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
