The apostle John wrote how the Jewish people in Jerusalem began to wonder about Jesus, “Is not this he, whom they seek to kill? But, lo, he speaks boldly, and they say nothing unto him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is the very Christ? Howbeit we know this man from where he is: but when Christ comes, no man knows from where he is. Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, You both know me, and you know from where I am: and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom you know not”, and in chapter seven and verse twenty-nine of his book, John shared how Jesus said, “I know him: for I am from him” where we read:
But I know him: for I am from him, and he has sent me.
The verse reads, “But I know him:” John began with the words, “But I know” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover I, Jesus, perceive, understand and cherish” “him” which means “God the Father who sent Jesus”. John shared how Jesus told the Jewish people He “knew” God the Father who sent Him.
The verse goes on to say, “for I am from him, and he has sent me.” John continued with the words, “for I am from him” which means “because, since and on account that I, Jesus, exist by God the Father”, “and he has sent me” or “and God the Father has dispatched and assigned me, Jesus”. John shared how Jesus told the Jewish people that His origin was in God the Father, and that God the Father had “dispatched and assigned” Him.
When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus knew God the Father personally, and He knew His “origin and origination” was in God who “dispatched” Him. Jesus was sent by God the Father to be the “Savior and Lord” of the world, and every person who puts their faith and trust in Him will be forgiven of their sins and be granted everlasting life with God in Heaven. Let all who read these words study carefully the words of Jesus who knows “God the Father” and was “assigned” to bring “salvation” to everyone who believes.
Next time John shares how the Jews, “sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
