To the Brook Cedron - John 18:1

The apostle John wrote how Jesus prayed, Father, I will that they also, whom you have given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which you have given me: for you loved me before the foundation of the world. O righteous Father, the world has not known you: but I have known you, and these have known that you have sent me. And I have declared unto them your name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith you have loved me may be in them, and I in them”, and in chapter eighteen and verse one of his book John shared how Jesus, “went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron” where we read:

When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron,

where was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples.

The verse reads,When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, ... John began with the words, “When Jesus” which means “at the time and moment the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation” “had spoken these words” or “declared and proclaimed the speeches, declarations and proclamations in His prayer to His Heavenly Father God”, “he went forth with his disciples” which means “he, Jesus, left and departed alongside His disciples” “over the brook” or “beyond or on the other side of the storm-runlet or winter-torrent” “Cedron” which means “turbid” and was “the name of a winter torrent or rising near Jerusalem and flowing down through a valley of Kidron which had the Mount of Olives on the east and into the Dead Sea. John shared how Jesus left the area where He prayed to His Heavenly Father and crossed the “storm-runlet” known as “Cedron”.

The verse continues, “... where was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples.” John added the words, “where was a garden” or “in which was located a garden”, “into the which he entered” which means “and Jesus came into and entered that garden”, “and his disciples” or “and his, Jesus', student, pupils and attendants”. John shared how Jesus made His way to and entered a “garden” along with His disciples.

When we think through John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus and His disciples left the place He was praying and entered into a “garden” which was on the other side of the “brook Cedron”. This journey begins the next phase to Jesus' path toward the cross to die for the sins of all mankind. God's love for people drove Him to send His Son Jesus into the world to be the “Savior and Lord” of the world. Everyone who surrenders their life to Jesus will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life with God in Heaven. Let all who read these words understand Jesus' purpose for going to this “garden” and yield their lives to Him who alone is able to “save”.

Next time we see John shares how, “Judas also, which betrayed him, knew the place”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

God's Name Declared - John 17:26

John the apostle wrote how Jesus prayed, Father, I will that they also, whom you have given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which you have given me: for you loved me before the foundation of the world. O righteous Father, the world has not known you: but I have known you, and these have known that you have sent me”, and in chapter seventeen and verse twenty-six of his book John shared how Jesus prayed, “I have declared unto them your name” where we read:

And I have declared unto them your name, and will declare it:

that the love wherewith you have loved me may be in them, and I in them.

The verse reads,And I have declared unto them your name, and will declare it: John began with Jesus' words, “and I have declared unto them” which means “and I, Jesus, have made known, given understanding and certified to His disciples” “your name” or “your, God the Heavenly Father's, name and everything which the name covers, everything the thought or feeling of which is aroused in the mind by mentioning, hearing and remembering”, “and will declare it” which means “and I, Jesus, shall make known, give understanding to and certify the name of God the Heavenly Father”. John shared how Jesus told His Heavenly Father that He “made known” His “name”, and He would continue to “share” it.

The verse goes on to say, “that the love wherewith you have loved me may be in them, and I in them.” John continued with Jesus words, “that the love” or “so the affection good will, benevolence and brotherly love” “wherewith you have loved me” which means “that you, Heavenly Father God, have been fond of, well pleased with, contented and dearly loved me, Jesus” “may be in them” or “might exist within them, the disciples of Jesus”, “and I in them” which means “and I, Jesus, within them, the disciples of Jesus”. John shared how Jesus desired for the “love” that God provided Him might also be within His disciples and that He would be within them as well.

When we think through John's words in this verse, we learn not only that Jesus “proclaimed” God the Heavenly Father's “name” to His disciples, but that He would continue doing so. The reason for this is so the “love” of the Heavenly Father God which was “given” to Jesus would reside in them as well. God wants to live within every person, and this is available through a relationship with His Son Jesus. Those who surrender their lives to Jesus will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life with God, and those who are wise will submit to Him and experience the love and presence of Jesus Christ within their lives.

The World Has Not Known God - John 17:25

The apostle John wrote how Jesus prayed, Father, I will that they also, whom you have given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which you have given me: for you loved me before the foundation of the world”, and in chapter seventeen and verse twenty-five of his book John shared how Jesus prayed, “O righteous Father, the world has not known you” where we read:

O righteous Father, the world has not known you:

but I have known you, and these have known that you have sent me.

The verse reads,O righteous Father, the world has not known you: John began with Jesus' words, “O righteous Father” which means “O virtuous, upright, innocent, faultless and guiltless Heavenly Father God”, “the world has not known you” or “the earth and it's inhabitants have in no way or manner understood, perceived or been acquainted with you, Heavenly Father God”. John shared how Jesus referred to the “uprightness and guiltless” nature of His Heavenly Father God as He declared how the “earth and it's inhabitants” did not “understand or perceive” Him.

The verse continues, “but I have known you, and these have known that you have sent me.” John added the words, “but I have known you” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover I, Jesus, have understood, perceived and been acquainted with you, God the Heavenly Father”, “and these have known” which means “and these, Jesus' disciples, have perceived, understood and been acquainted with the idea” “that you have sent me” or “that you, Heavenly Father God, have dispatched and assigned me, Jesus”. John shared how Jesus referred to how He “perceived and knew” His Heavenly Father God, and His disciples also “understood” that God the Heavenly Father God dispatched and assigned Him.

When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we see how “the earth and it's inhabitants” were unaware of God the Heavenly Father even though Jesus was. Jesus knew His Heavenly Father God, and His disciples “knew” that Jesus was “dispatched” by Him. God loves people, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die for their sins so they may live forever with Him. Those who yield their lives to Jesus will experience the love, care, concern and direction of God and be granted everlasting life with Him in Heaven.

With Jesus - John 17:24

The apostle John wrote how Jesus prayed to His Father God about His disciples, the glory which you gave me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one. I in them, and you in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that you have sent me, and have loved them, as you have loved me”, and in chapter seventeen and verse twenty-four of his book John shared how Jesus prayed, “Father, I will that they also, whom you have given me, be with me” where we read:

Father, I will that they also, whom you have given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which you have given me: for you loved me before the foundation of the world.

The verse reads,Father, I will that they also, whom you have given me, be with me where I am; John began with Jesus' words, “Father, I will that they also” which means “Heavenly Father God, I, Jesus, desire, crave, wish and have in mind that they, Jesus' disciples, even so and indeed”, “whom you have given me” or “that you, Heavenly Father God, have granted, bestowed, furnished and supplied me, Jesus”, “be with me where I am” which means “to exist alongside me, Jesus, in the place and location I, Jesus, exist”. John shared how Jesus desired for His disciples to “exist” in the same location as He.

The verse goes on to say, “that they may behold my glory, which you have given me: for you loved me before the foundation of the world.” John continued with Jesus' words, “that they may behold my glory” or “so they, the disciples of Jesus, might look upon, perceive, view attentively and consider my, Jesus', honor, praise, splendor and brightness”, “which you have given me” which means “that you, Heavenly Father God, have granted, bestowed, furnished and supplied me, Jesus”: “for you loved me” or “because, since and on account that you, Heavenly Father God, have been fond of, well pleased, contented with and dearly loved me, Jesus” “before the foundation of the world” which means “in advance and prior to the conception, deposition and founding of the circle of the earth”. John shared how Jesus desired for His disciples to “see and look upon” His “splendor and brightness and love” that God the Heavenly Father provided to Him in advance of the “founding” of the “earth”.

When we consider John's words in this verse, we discover how Jesus wanted His disciples to be with Him so they could look upon His “honor, splendor and brightness” which God gave to Him because He “loved” Him so dearly. God loves everybody, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die for their sins so they could live with Him forever. Those who yield to Him will “look upon” Jesus' “glory” and realize the amazing “love” God has for Him. Let all who read these words understand God's love for Jesus and submit to His desire to have every person surrender their lives to Him as their “Savior and Lord” and thereby forever live with Him.

Made Perfect in One - John 17:23

The apostle John wrote how Jesus prayed to His Father God about His disciples, the glory which you gave me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one”, and in chapter seventeen and verse twenty-three of his book John shared how Jesus prayed, “I in them, and you in me, that they may be made perfect in one” where we read:

I in them, and you in me, that they may be made perfect in one;

and that the world may know that you have sent me, and have loved them, as you have loved me.

The verse reads,I in them, and you in me, that they may be made perfect in one; John began with Jesus' words, “I in them” which means “I, Jesus, within them, the disciples of Jesus”, “and you in me” or “and you, Heavenly Father God, within me, Jesus”, “that they may be made perfect” which means “so they, the disciples of Jesus, might appear and stand as complete, accomplished, finished and brought to an end” “in one” or “within unity and as one”. John shared how Jesus prayed that His disciples would have a direct relationship with Him as God was within Him so they could be made “complete and finished”.

The verse continues, “and that the world may know that you have sent me, and have loved them, as you have loved me.” John added Jesus' words, “and that the world may know” or “and thereby the earth and it's inhabitants will perceive, understand, have knowledge of and become acquainted with the idea” “that you have sent me” which means “that you, Heavenly Father God, have dispatched and assigned me, Jesus”, “and have loved them” or “and have been fond of, well pleased with and contented with them, the disciples of Jesus”, “as you have loved me” which means “even like and similar to the way and manner you, God the Heavenly Father, have been fond of, well pleased with and contented with me, Jesus”. John shared how Jesus said the reason His disciples were to be “made perfect in one” was so the “earth and it's inhabitants” would understand that He was “dispatched and assigned” by His Heavenly Father God, and the “world” would see that God “loves” the disciples of Jesus in the same way He “loves” Jesus.

When we think through John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus desired for His disciples to be “completed and finished” in Him because their lives would become a testimony for God's assignment of Jesus and the “love” He has not only for Jesus, but also for all people who yield their lives to Him. God wants the “world” and it's inhabitants to know that He loves them, and He sent His Son Jesus to the “world” to die for the sins of all mankind so they may have a personal relationship with Him. Everyone who surrenders their life to Jesus will be forgiven of their sins, granted everlasting life and come to understand the “love” God the Heavenly Father has for Jesus and all who believe in Him. Let all who read these words carefully consider the “love” and commitment of God the Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus and submit their lives to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”.
