The apostle John wrote how Jesus prayed to His Father God about His disciples, “I have given them your word; and the world has hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. I pray not that you should take them out of the world, but that you should keep them from the evil”, and in chapter seventeen and verse sixteen of his book John shared how Jesus prayed to His Heavenly Father God about His disciples saying, “they are not of the world” where we read:
They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
The verse reads, “They are not of the world, ...” John began with the words, “they are not” which means “they, the disciples of Jesus, do not exist as” “of the world” or “belonging to the earth and it's inhabitants”. John shared how Jesus told His Heavenly Father that His disciples did not belong to the earth.
The verse continues, “... even as I am not of the world.” John added the words, “even as I” or “in the same way, manner and likeness that I, Jesus” “am not of the world” which means “do not exist as belonging to the earth”. John shared how Jesus added that He Himself did not “belong” to the earth.
When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus reaffirmed that His disciples did not “belong” to the “world”. Jesus Himself was not “of the world”, and those who surrender their lives to Him do not “belong” to the “world” as well. God knew all people would face “death” on earth because of their sins, and He desired to live with them forever. Anyone who surrenders their life to Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord” will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life with His Father God in Heaven. Let all who read these words become as Jesus, “not of this world” and will inherit everlasting life with He and His Father God in Heaven.
Next time John shares how Jesus prays to His Heavenly Father God about His disciples saying, “sanctify them through your truth”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
