The apostle John wrote how Jesus told His disciples, “I have yet many things to say unto you, but you cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall show it unto you”, and in chapter sixteen and verse fifteen of his book John shared how Jesus told His disciples, “All things that the Father has are mine” where we read:
All things that the Father has are mine:
therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall show it unto you.
The verse reads, “All things that the Father has are mine:” John began with Jesus' words, “all things” which means “each, every, the whole and everything” “that the Father has” or “that the Heavenly Father God holds, owns and possesses” “are mine” which means “is mine, Jesus'”. John shared how Jesus told His disciples that everything His Heavenly Father “possessed” belonged to Him.
The verse continues, “therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall show it unto you.”. John added the words, “therefore said I” or “wherefore, consequently and on this account Jesus uttered, declared and proclaimed”, “that he shall take of mine” which means “that the Spirit of truth will claim, procure and apprehend that which belongs to Jesus”, “and show it unto you” or “and manifest, announce, make known, report and bring tidings to you, disciples of Jesus”. John shared how Jesus said since “everything” the Heavenly Father owns was His, the “Spirit of truth” would declare how God the Father would procure that which was Jesus' and make it known to His disciples.
When we consider John's words in this verse, we learn how God the Father owns and possesses everything, and all these things belong to Jesus as well. Since this is true, Jesus said the “Comforter, Holy Spirit and Spirit of truth” would make known to His disciples whatever they needed to know. God's desire is to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and when a person surrenders their life to Him, they will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life. Then the Holy Spirit comes within them and shares with them everything they need to know to live the “Christian” life. Those who are wise will yield their lives to Jesus Christ and carefully listen to the “Spirit of truth” who will “guide” them to the truth.
Next time we see John share how Jesus tells His disciples, “A little while, and you shall not see me”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
