The apostle John wrote how Jesus told His disciples, “when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceeds from the Father, he shall testify of me”, and in chapter fifteen and verse twenty-seven of his book John shared how Jesus told His disciples, “you also shall bear witness”, where we read:
And you also shall bear witness, because you have been with me from the beginning.
The verse reads, “And you also shall bear witness, ...” John began with the words, “and you also” which means “and you, disciples of Jesus, even so and indeed” “shall bear witness” or “will testify and give testimony”. John shared how Jesus said His disciples would “testify and give testimony” concerning His works and deeds.
The verse goes on to say, “... because you have been with me from the beginning.” John continued with the words, “because you have been with me” which means “since and on account that you, disciples of Jesus, have existed alongside me, Jesus” “from the beginning” or “from the origin or starting point”. John shared how Jesus said His disciples would “testify” about Him because they had been with Him from the origin of His ministry.
When we think through John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus declared that His disciples would also “give witness” concerning Him because they were with Jesus from the start of His ministry. Jesus came to be the “Savior and Lord” of the world, and everyone who believes and trusts in Him will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life with God. Those who yield to Jesus will have a relationship with Him, and they shall “bear witness” to others of the wonderful works, acts and deeds He has performed so people may be “saved” from the penalty of sin and live with God eternally in Heaven.
Next time we begin a new chapter and see John share how Jesus tells His disciples, “these things have I spoken unto you, that you should not be offended”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
