The apostle John wrote how Jesus told His disciples, “I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment. Of sin, because they believe not on me. Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and you see me no more; Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged”, and in chapter sixteen and verse twelve of his book John shared how Jesus told His disciples, “I have yet many things to say unto you” where we read:
I have yet many things to say unto you, but you cannot bear them now.
The verse reads, “I have yet many things to say unto you, ...” John began with Jesus' words, “I have yet many things” which means “I, Jesus, hold, own and possess still a lot and numerous words and ideas” “to say unto you” or “to utter, declare and proclaim to you, disciples of Jesus”. John shared how Jesus told His disciples He possessed numerous “things” to proclaim to them.
The verse goes on to say, “... but you cannot bear them now.”. John continued with the words, “but you cannot” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover you, disciples of Jesus, are unable, incapable and without the ability to” “bear them now” which means “carry, sustain, uphold or support the many things at this time and moment”. John shared how Jesus told His disciples they were incapable of “receiving and sustaining” things He had to say to them at this point.
When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus possess a great number more “sayings” to share with His disciples, however, they were not able to “uphold or support” them at that time. Jesus knew what His disciples could handle and what they were incapable of carrying. Jesus knows all, and He discloses His ideas to people as they are able to manage them. God Almighty His Heavenly Father is omniscient, and there is nothing He does not know. He reveals things to people through His Son Jesus and His Holy Spirit, and His plan of “salvation” is His priority. Those who believe and trust in Him as their personal “Savior and Lord” will be forgiven of their sins and receive everlasting life with God. The other “ideas” of Jesus will be revealed to those who yield their lives to Him when they are able to handle them.
Next time we see John share how Jesus tells what happens, “when he, the Spirit of truth, is come”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
