The apostle John wrote how Jesus prayed, “Father, I will that they also, whom you have given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which you have given me: for you loved me before the foundation of the world. O righteous Father, the world has not known you: but I have known you, and these have known that you have sent me. And I have declared unto them your name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith you have loved me may be in them, and I in them”, and in chapter eighteen and verse one of his book John shared how Jesus, “went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron” where we read:
When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron,
where was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples.
The verse reads, “When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, ...” John began with the words, “When Jesus” which means “at the time and moment the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation” “had spoken these words” or “declared and proclaimed the speeches, declarations and proclamations in His prayer to His Heavenly Father God”, “he went forth with his disciples” which means “he, Jesus, left and departed alongside His disciples” “over the brook” or “beyond or on the other side of the storm-runlet or winter-torrent” “Cedron” which means “turbid” and was “the name of a winter torrent or rising near Jerusalem and flowing down through a valley of Kidron which had the Mount of Olives on the east and into the Dead Sea. John shared how Jesus left the area where He prayed to His Heavenly Father and crossed the “storm-runlet” known as “Cedron”.
The verse continues, “... where was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples.” John added the words, “where was a garden” or “in which was located a garden”, “into the which he entered” which means “and Jesus came into and entered that garden”, “and his disciples” or “and his, Jesus', student, pupils and attendants”. John shared how Jesus made His way to and entered a “garden” along with His disciples.
When we think through John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus and His disciples left the place He was praying and entered into a “garden” which was on the other side of the “brook Cedron”. This journey begins the next phase to Jesus' path toward the cross to die for the sins of all mankind. God's love for people drove Him to send His Son Jesus into the world to be the “Savior and Lord” of the world. Everyone who surrenders their life to Jesus will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life with God in Heaven. Let all who read these words understand Jesus' purpose for going to this “garden” and yield their lives to Him who alone is able to “save”.
