The apostle John wrote how Jesus told His disciples, “the time comes, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall show you plainly of the Father. At that day you shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you. For the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God. I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father. His disciples said unto him, Lo, now speak you plainly, and speak no proverb. Now are we sure that you know all things, and need not that any man should ask you: by this we believe that you came forth from God. Jesus answered them, Do you now believe?”, and in chapter sixteen and verse thirty-two of his book John shared how Jesus told His disciples, “Behold, the hour comes, yes, is now come, that you shall be scattered” where we read:
Behold, the hour comes, yes, is now come, that you shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.
The verse reads, “Behold, the hour comes, yes, is now come, that you shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone:” John began with the words, “Behold, the hour comes” which means “look, lo and see the season, time and moment arises and appears”, “yes, is now come” or “also and indeed at this time and moment arises and appears”, “that you shall be scattered” which means “that you, disciples of Jesus, will be dispensed, routed, stricken and driven by impulses to fly in every direction”, “every man to his own” or “each, the whole, all and everyone of the people whether male or female to their own self”, “and shall leave me alone” which means “and will let go of, disregard, omit and neglect me, Jesus, to be by Himself”. John shared how Jesus told His disciples the “time” was about to appear, and was even at hand, when His disciples would be driven away from Jesus and leave Him to be by Himself.
The verse goes on to say, “and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.” John continued with the words, “and yet I am not alone” or “and still I, Jesus, do not exist as destitute of help or forsaken”, “because the Father is with me” which means “since and on account that the Heavenly Father God exists alongside me, Jesus”. John shared how Jesus declared that He was not “by Himself” because His Heavenly Father God was alongside Him.
When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus knew His disciples would abandon Him at a particular time in His future, however, Jesus was never by Himself because God the Heavenly Father was always with Him. God sent His Son Jesus to endure these things to pay for the sins of mankind, and although Jesus was abandoned by everyone, He never altered from His plan to “save” them. God desires to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and even when His disciples “scattered” from Him, He continued with His purpose to provide “salvation” to mankind so they may forever live with Him and His Father God.
Next time John shares how Jesus tells His disciples, “these things I have spoken unto you, that in me you might have peace”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
