The apostle John wrote how Jesus told His disciples, “If the world hate you, you know that it hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love his own: but because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also”, and in chapter fifteen and verse twenty-one of his book John shared how Jesus told His disciples, “but all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake”, where we read:
But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me.
The verse reads, “But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, ...” John began with the words, “But all these things” which means “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover each, every, the whole and everything” “will they do unto you” or “shall the earth and it's inhabitants perform, produce and make ready for you, disciples of Jesus” “for my name's sake” which means “because, since and on account of the cause and reason of my, Jesus', name which is used for everything which the name covers including the thoughts or feelings of which are aroused in the mind by mentioning, hearing and remembering”. John shared how Jesus said the earth and it's inhabitants would perform their acts of “persecution” against His disciples because and on account of His “name”.
The verse goes on to say, “... because they know not him that sent me.” John continued with the words, “because they know not him” which means “since and on account that the people of the earth do not perceive, understand, discover nor discern the One” “that sent me” or “who dispatched and assigned me, Jesus”. John shared how Jesus said the reason the people of the world would “hate and persecute” His disciples would be because they were unaware of God the Heavenly Father who dispatched Him.
When we think through John's words in this verse, we learn the reason the world and it's inhabitants will “hate and persecute” Jesus' disciples. The “world” does not know that God the Father sent His Son Jesus into the world to be it's “Savior and Lord”, and therefore it “hates and persecutes” everyone who believes and trusts in Him. God desires a personal relationship with everyone through His Son Jesus, and when they submit their lives to Him they will be “hated and persecuted” by those who do not believe. Because they do not know “God”, they will also be unaware of His Son Jesus, and woe be to those who follow their unbelieving ways.
Next time John shares how Jesus tells His disciples, “if I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
