John the apostle wrote how Jesus prayed to His Father God concerning His disciples, “I have given them your word; and the world has hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. I pray not that you should take them out of the world, but that you should keep them from the evil. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world”, and in chapter seventeen and verse seventeen of his book John shared how Jesus prayed to His Heavenly Father God about His disciples saying, “sanctify them through your truth” where we read:
Sanctify them through your truth: your word is truth.
The verse reads, “Sanctify them through your truth:” John began with the words, “Sanctify them” which means “venerate, consecrate, dedicate and purify them, Jesus' disciples” “through your truth” or “by way of your, Heavenly Father God's, truthfulness, reality, certainty and verity”. John shared how Jesus asked His Heavenly Father God to “consecrate and purify” His disciples by way of the “truthfulness and verity” of Himself.
The verse goes on to say, “your word is truth.” John continued with the words, “your word” or “your, Heavenly Father God's, speech, mandate, decree, saying and order” “is truth” which means “exists as truthfulness, reality, certainty and verity”. John shared how Jesus referred to the “truthfulness and reality” of God the Heavenly Father's “speech, mandate and decree”.
When we think through John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus desired His disciples to be “purified and consecrated” through the “word” of God. God's word, the Bible, is the “truth”, and those who carefully examine it's contents will discover it is God's way to communicate with people so they may be “redeemed” or “bought back” from the penalty of sin which is death. When Adam and Eve, the first human beings were on the earth, they “sinned” against God and thereby were to “die” even as God had promised, “in the day that you eat thereof, you shall surely die”. (See Genesis 3). From that time one by one mankind has inherited a “sinful nature”, and the Bible reveals God's quest to “save” people from their sins and grant them everlasting life with Him. Those who are wise will seek to have a relationship with God's Son Jesus, yield their life to Him and become “sanctified” by the “word of God” so they may live forever with Him in Heaven.
Next time John shares how Jesus prays to His Heavenly Father God about His disciples saying, “as you have sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
