The apostle John wrote how Jesus proclaimed, “I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. Every branch in me that bears not fruit he takes away: and every branch that bears fruit, he purges it, that it may bring forth more fruit”, and in chapter fifteen and verse three of his book John shared how Jesus proclaimed to His disciples, “you are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you”, where we read:
Now you are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
The verse reads, “Now you are clean through the word ...” John began with Jesus' words, “now you are clean” which means “at this time and already you, disciples of Jesus, exist as purified by fire or pure” “through the word” or “by way and means of the speech, decree, mandate and order of moral precepts” that have been provided by the following. John shared how Jesus told His disciples they were “purified” by the “speech, mandate and order of moral precepts” according to the following.
The verse continues, “... which I have spoken unto you.” John added the words, “which I have spoken” which means “that I, Jesus, have uttered, declared and proclaimed” “unto you” or “to you, disciples of Jesus”. John shared how Jesus told His disciples they were “purified” by the “word” He proclaimed to them.
When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus' “word” purified and cleansed His disciples. God's word is powerful and is able to make the most vial sinner “clean”. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to be the “Savior and Lord” of all who believe and trust in Him. When they yield themselves to Jesus and His teachings, He begins to “purify and wash” them like the “pruning of the vine” so they may bear much “fruit” through “works, acts and deeds” in His Kingdom. Jesus “cleansed” His disciples through His “word”, and He is willing to “purify” everyone who submits their lives to Him and His Heavenly Father God.
Next time John shares how Jesus says, “Abide in me, and I in you”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
