Joy that Remains - John 15:11

The apostle John wrote how Jesus told His disciples, As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you: continue you in my love. If you keep my commandments, you shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love”, and in chapter fifteen and verse eleven of his book John” shared how Jesus said, “these things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you”, where we read:

These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.

The verse reads,These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, ... John began with Jesus' words, “These things have I spoken unto you” which means “Jesus' words about His Father loving Him and He loving His disciples and continuing in His love by keeping His commandments have I, Jesus, uttered, declared and proclaimed to you, disciples of Jesus”, “that my joy” or “so my, Jesus', gladness, cheerfulness and calm delight” “might remain in you” which means “may abide, continue, sojourn and tarry within you, Jesus' disciples”. John shared how Jesus shared His words with His disciples so His “gladness, cheer and calm delight” would continue with them.

The verse goes on to say, “... and that your joy might be full.” John continued with Jesus' words, “and that your joy” which means “and so your, disciples of Jesus', gladness, cheerfulness and calm delight” “might be full” or “may be filled up, abounding, liberally supplied, rendered full and complete”. John shared how Jesus not only spoke His words to His disciples so His “gladness and cheer” would continue with them, but also so “gladness, cheer and calm delight” would be “liberally supplied” within them.

When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we how Jesus desired for His disciples to have the same “joy, gladness and calm delight” that He had while on the earth. God loves people, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to save people from the penalty for sins, death, so they might experience true “joy, gladness and calm delight” as He did. God is filled with joy. He continues in a “glad and calmly delighted” way, and He wants people to have this same “liberally supplied” way of life. Anyone who yields their life to Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord” and keeps His words will have the “joy, gladness, cheer and calm delight” of Him, and those who are wise will believe and surrender to Him.

Next time John shares how Jesus says, “this is my commandment, that you love one another”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
