The apostle John wrote after Jesus died on the cross, “Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus. And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight. Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury”, and in chapter nineteen and verse forty-one of his book John shared how, “in the place where he was crucified there was a garden” where we read:
Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden;
and in the garden a new sepulcher, wherein was never man yet laid.
The verse reads, “Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden;” John began with the words, “Now in the place” which means “moreover within the location” “where he was crucified” or “where he, Jesus, was driven down with stakes, palisade and impaled upon a cross” “there was a garden” which means “there existed a garden”. John shared how a “garden” was in the location where Jesus was “crucified”.
The verse continues, “and in the garden a new sepulcher, wherein was never man yet laid.” John added the words, “and in the garden” or “and within the garden located near the crucifixion of Jesus” “a new sepulcher” which means “a recently made, fresh, unused and unworn tomb or grave”, “wherein was never man yet laid” or “in which no person whether male or female had their body laid down or set”. John shared how a “tomb” that had never been used was located within the “garden”.
When we think through John's words in this verse, we learn about a “garden” near the place where Jesus was “crucified”, and there was an unused and newly fashioned tomb within that “garden”. This was no coincidence, and this was where “Joseph of Arimathaea and Nicodemus” were taking the body of Jesus. God's plan of salvation was being fulfilled, and Jesus' body was to be laid in the “tomb” as preparation for great things to come. God's desire is to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and when they submit themselves to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, they shall be forgiven of their sins and granted eternal life with God. Let everyone who thinks about the “unused tomb in the garden” understand this is just another detail prophesied by God so they may live forever with Him.
Next time John shares how , “there laid they Jesus therefore because of the Jews' preparation day”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
