The Title Written in Hebrew, Greek and Latin - John 19:20

The apostle John wrote how, “they took Jesus, and led him away. And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha. And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was, JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS”, and in chapter nineteen and verse twenty of his book John shared how, “this title then read many of the Jews” where we read:

This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Jesus was crucified was near to the city:

and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin.

The verse reads,This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Jesus was crucified was near to the city: John began with the words, “this title” which means “this inscription, accusation or crime for which a criminal suffered” “then read many of the Jews” or “at that time recognized and acknowledged a lot and great number of the Jewish people”: “for the place” which means “because, since and on account that the location” “where Jesus was crucified” or “that the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation was palisade, driven down with stakes and impaled upon a cross” “was near to the city” which means “existed next and imminent to the habitation, abode and dwelling place known as Jerusalem”. John shared how the “Jewish people” began to “read” the inscription placed above Jesus' head by Pilate because they were in proximity to the location where Jesus was “crucified”.

The verse goes on to say, “and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin.” John continued with the words, “and it was written” or “and the title or inscription was delineated or formed in letters on a tablet, parchment, paper or other material” “in Hebrew” which means “in the Hebraic or Chaldean language”, “and Greek” or “and the Greek language”, “and Latin” which means “and the Latin language”. John shared how “Pilate” inscribed the “title” he placed above Jesus on the cross in the “Hebrew, Greek and Latin” languages.

When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we learn not only that the “Jewish people” “read” what “Pilate” wrote on the inscription place above Jesus on the cross, but also that he wrote the “title” in three different languages – Hebrew, Greek and Latin to be certain everyone was able to “read” his words. The knowledge of Jesus being the “KING OF THE JEWS” was to be known by the whole world, and nothing about that idea has been altered today. God desires to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and anyone who yields their life to Jesus will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life with His Father God. Let all who “read” these words be certain, Jesus is not only “King” of the Jews, but also the “King of King and Lord of Lords” of the world.

Next time John shares how, “then said the chief priests of the Jews to Pilate, Write not, The King of the Jews”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
