Peace Be Unto You Again - John 20:21

John the apostle wrote after Jesus was dead, buried and resurrected how, “the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and said unto them, Peace be unto you. And when he had so said, he showed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord”, and in chapter twenty and verse twenty-one of his book John shared how Jesus, “said … to them again, Peace be unto you” where we read:

Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father has sent me, even so send I you.

The verse begins, “Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you:” John began with the words, “then said Jesus to them again” which means “at that time uttered, declared and proclaimed the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation another time”, “Peace be unto you” or “tranquility, harmony and concord be towards you, disciples of Jesus”. John shared how “Jesus” spoke “peace and tranquility” to His “disciples” another time.

The verse continues, “as my Father has sent me, even so send I you.” John added the words, “as my Father has sent me” or “in the same way and manner my, Heavenly Father God, dispatched and assigned me, Jesus”, “even so send I you” which means “likewise and in the same way dispatch and assign I, Jesus, you, His disciples”. John shared how Jesus “dispatched and assigned” His “disciples” in the same manner that His Heavenly Father God had “dispatched and assigned” Him.

When we consider John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus was “passing the baton” of the gospel to His disciples. God, His Heavenly Father, had assigned Jesus to the world to bring people hope for salvation from their sins so they might inherit everlasting life with God. Jesus gave His disciples this work at this time. The disciples of Jesus were to be responsible to tell the story of “Salvation” and forgiveness of sins through belief and trust in Jesus Christ, and anyone who surrenders their life to Him may receive of the gift of “grace” from God. God loves everyone, and He calls all who will receive Him to a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus. Those who are wise not only yield to Jesus, but also become “dispatched and assigned” to share this “good news” with others in the world.

Next time John shares how Jesus tells His disciples, “Receive you the Holy Ghost”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
