The apostle John wrote, “the first day of the week came Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulcher, and saw the stone taken away from the sepulcher. Then she ran, and came to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and said unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulcher, and we know not where they have laid him. Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulcher. So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulcher. And he stooping down, and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in. Then came Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulcher, and saw the linen clothes lie, And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself. Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulcher, and he saw, and believed. For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead”, and in chapter twenty and verse ten of his book John shared how, “the disciples went away again unto their own home” where we read:
Then the disciples went away again unto their own home.
The verse begins, “Then the disciples went away again ...” John began with the words, “then the disciples” which means “at that time the students, pupils and attendants” “went away again” or “left, departed or went forth another time”. John shared how Jesus' disciples, “Simon Peter and John” left the tomb where they noticed His body was gone.
The verse goes on to say, “... unto their own home.” John continued with the words, “unto their own” or “the the disciple's own personal” “home” which means “abodes, habitations and dwelling places”. John shared how Jesus' “disciples” went to their “homes”.
When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we learn how “Simon Peter and John” left the graveside where Jesus' body used to lie and went to “their own homes”. We can imagine their thoughts and wonder as they walked back to their houses as they did not know where Jesus' body was located. They did not have in mind at this point that He was risen from the dead, and they only wondered where His body could be. Jesus was indeed risen, and because He rose from the dead after dying on the cross, every person who believes and trusts in Him as their personal “Savior and Lord” will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life with God. Let all who wonder about these things while they dwell in their “homes” yield themselves to Jesus who was resurrected so they may obtain eternal life.
Next time John shares how, “Mary stood without at the sepulcher weeping”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
