The Third Time - John 21:14

John the apostle wrote how Jesus revealed Himself to His disciples on the sea shore and told them, “Bring of the fish which you have now caught. Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of great fishes, an hundred and fifty and three: and for all there were so many, yet was not the net broken. Jesus said unto them, Come and dine. And none of the disciples did ask him, Who are you? knowing that it was the Lord. Jesus then came, and took bread, and gave to them, and fish likewise”, and in chapter twenty-one and verse fourteen of his book John wrote, “this is now is the third time that Jesus showed himself to his disciples” where we read:

This is now the third time that Jesus showed himself to his disciples,

after that he was risen from the dead.

The verse begins, “This is now the third time that Jesus showed himself to his disciples, ...” John began with the words, “this is now the third time” which means “the appearance of Jesus on the sea shore was the third occasion” “that Jesus showed himself” or “when Jesus who is the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation revealed and exposed His own self” “to his disciples” which means “toward his, Jesus', students, pupils and attendants”. John shared how this was the “third” occasion that “Jesus” revealed Himself to His disciples after the following occurred.

The verse goes on to say, “... after that he was risen from the dead.” John continued with the words, “after that he was risen” “beyond, behind and post Jesus being resurrected and raised” “ from the dead” which means “from the non-living, inanimate, breathless and destitute of life”. John shared how this “third” appearance of Jesus to His disciples was “after” he was resurrected.

When we consider John's words in this verse, we learn how this “third” appearance of Jesus to His disciples after His death and resurrection was important. Jesus' disciples were eye-witnesses of His return to life, and because He revealed Himself to them over and over again, their testimony became stronger and stronger. John was one of these witnesses, and his desire was to tell the story of the gospel of Jesus Christ so every person would become a believer in Him. God's desire is to forgive the sins of every person through a personal relationship with His Son Jesus, and everyone who yields their life to Him will be forgiven of their sins and inherit everlasting life with God. Let all who read these words understand Jesus' continually revelation of Himself to His disciples gives proof that He is indeed risen from the grave and ready to save everyone who submits to Him.

Next time John shares how Jesus asks Peter, “ do you love me more than these?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
