The apostle John wrote about Jesus' disciples, “Simon Peter said unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with you. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing. But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore: but the disciples knew not that it was Jesus. Then Jesus said unto them, Children, have you any meat? They answered him, No. And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and you shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes. Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved said unto Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his fisher's coat unto him, (for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea. And the other disciples came in a little ship; (for they were not far from land, but as it were two hundred cubits,) dragging the net with fishes. As soon then as they were come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid thereon, and bread”, and in chapter twenty-one and verse ten of his book John shared how Jesus said, “bring of the fish which you have now caught” where we read:
Jesus said unto them, Bring of the fish which you have now caught.
The verse begins, “Jesus said unto them, ...” John began with the words, “Jesus said” which means “the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation uttered, declared and proclaimed” “unto them” or “to His disciples” the following words. John shared how Jesus began to speak to His disciples who were fishing.
The verse goes on to say, “... Bring of the fish which you have now caught.” John continued with the words, “bring of the fish” “carry and bear up the fish of the sea” “which you have now caught” which means “that you, disciples of Jesus, have captured, apprehended and seized”. John shared how Jesus told His disciples to “bring the fish” they had “caught” in their net to Him.
When we think through John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus instructed His disciples to “carry” the fish they had “caught” to where He was by the “fire”. This is another demonstration of Jesus being active among His disciples after His resurrection from the dead. Jesus desired to be among His disciples, and when He participated in their regular activities such as catching fish, cooking on a burning fire and having bread to eat, He proved to them He was present with them. Jesus desires a personal relationship like this with every person, and anyone who yields their life to Him as their “Savior and Lord” will be forgiven of their sins and granted eternal life with His Father God. Let all who read these words consider the natural activities of Jesus among His disciples and understand He desires the same with them.
Next time John shares how the disciples caught, “a hundred and fifty and three” fish, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
