The apostle John wrote how, “there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he said unto his mother, Woman, behold your son!”, and in chapter nineteen and verse twenty-seven of his book John wrote how Jesus said to John, “Behold your mother” where we read:
Then said he to the disciple, Behold your mother!
And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.
The verse reads, “Then said he to the disciple, Behold your mother!” John began with the words, “Then said he to the disciple” which means “at that time uttered, declared and proclaimed he, Jesus, to the student, pupil and attendant”, “Behold your mother” or “lo, look upon, observe and consider your female ancestor and progenitor”! John shared how Jesus spoke from the cross and told His disciple John to “look upon” His “mother”.
The verse continues “And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.” John added the words, “and from that hour” or “and separate and apart from that certain and definite time” “that disciple” which means “that particular student, pupil and attendant who was John” “took her unto his own home” or “brought Jesus' mother into his personal abode, dwelling place and habitation”. John shared how Jesus' disciple John brought Mary, Jesus' mother, into his own personal “home”.
When we consider John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus took care of His “mother” from the cross. Because Jesus was to die that day, He knew His “mother” would need to be attended to after He was gone. He chose His disciple John who was beside His “mother” at the cross, and from that day on, she lived in John's home. God loves people, and He cares about the relationships people have with their families. He “cares” for everyone who yields themselves to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, and all who come to Him will have their sins forgiven, be granted everlasting life with God and be attended to and loved by Him for all eternity.
Next time John shares how Jesus says, “I thirst”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
