John the apostle wrote after Jesus was dead, buried and resurrected, Simon Peter and John went to His tomb to find His body not there. Afterward, “the disciples went away again unto their own home. But Mary stood without at the sepulcher weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulcher, And saw two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain. And they said unto her, Woman, why are you weeping? She said unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him. And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus”, and in chapter twenty and verse fifteen of his book John shared how Jesus asked Mary, “why are you weeping?” where we read:
Jesus said unto her, Woman, why are you weeping? whom do you seek? She, supposing him to be the gardener, said unto him, Sir, if you have borne him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.
The verse begins, “Jesus said unto her, Woman, why are you weeping? whom do you seek?” John began with the words, “Jesus said unto her” which means “the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation uttered, declared, proclaimed and asked Mary Magdalene”, “woman” or “female human being”, “why are you weeping” which means “for what reason and cause are you, Mary, lamenting, mourning and bewailing”? “Whom do you seek” or “what person are you looking for, craving and desiring”? John shared how “Jesus” asked “Mary” why she was “crying” and who she was looking for.
The verse continues, “She, supposing him to be the gardener, said unto him, Sir, if you have borne him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.” John added the words, “she, supposing him” or “she, Mary, thinking, judging and determining him, Jesus” “to be the gardener” which means “to be the keeper of the garden”, “said unto him” or “uttered, declared and proclaimed to him, Jesus”, “Sir” which means “One to whom a person or thing belongs, about which he has power of deciding; master, and the title to God the Messiah”, “if you have borne him away” or “whether and in case you, gardener, carried and bore the body of Jesus away”, “tell me where you have laid him” which means “inform and allow me, Mary, to know in what place and location you, gardener, have set, put and lay him, Jesus”, “and I will take him away” or “and I, Mary, will remove, carry off and take him, Jesus' body, away”. John shared how “Mary” believed Jesus to be the “gardener” so she told Him if He took “Jesus' body” away from His tomb, she would remove it from wherever He placed it.
When we consider John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus revealed Himself to “Mary”, but she did not recognize Him. She thought He was the “gardener”, and she assumed that He took Jesus body and placed it somewhere else. She told Him if He told her where He placed the body of Jesus, she would retrieve it and carry it away. Little did “Mary” know that her understanding about the body of Jesus was about to be altered forever. Jesus did not reveal Himself to “Mary” at first, but He was indeed risen from the dead and directly in front of her. Those who “seek for” Jesus will find Him, and when they put their faith and trust in Him, they will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life with God. Let all who read these words “seek” Jesus and yield themselves to Him.
Next time John shares how Mary , “turned herself, and said unto him, Rabboni”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
