The Dead Praise Not the LORD - Psalms 115:17

In Psalms one hundred fifteen the Psalmist said, “The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD'S: but the earth has he given to the children of men”, and in chapter one hundred fifteen and verse seventeen of Psalms the Psalmist said, “the dead praise not the LORD” where we read,

The dead praise not the LORD, neither any that go down into silence.

The verse begins with the words, “The dead praise not the LORD, .... The Psalmist began with the words, “the dead” or “the executed, put to death, killed and slain” “praise not the LORD” which means “do not boast, commend, celebrate or give glory to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. The Psalmist said people who have died in no way adore, celebrate and give glory to Jehovah God.

The verse continues, “... neither any that go down into silence.” The Psalmist added the words, “neither any” or “no and not one person” “that go down” which means “who sinks down and descends” “into silence” or “to the silent place of concealment and death”. The Psalmist said not one person who goes to the place of concealment gives glory, honor and adoration to Jehovah God.

When we think through the Psalmist's words in this verse, we see how he made note of the idea that people who have died and gone into the place of concealment are unable to celebrate, give glory and honor to Jehovah God. The Psalmist referred to the honor and glory that may be given to God by people who are among the living, and on earth everyone is has the opportunity to do so. God wants people to be in a personal intimate relationship with Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins, and when we believe and trust in Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to be among the living who give “praise unto the LORD”.

Next time the Psalmist says, “we will bless the LORD from this time forth”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
