Taking the Cup of Salvation - Psalms 116:13

In Psalms one hundred sixteen the Psalmist asked, “what shall I render unto the LORD for all his benefits toward me?”, and in chapter one hundred sixteen and verse thirteen of Psalms the Psalmist said, “I will take the cup of salvation” where we read,

I will take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the LORD.

The verse begins with the words, I will take the cup of salvation, ... The Psalmist began with the words, “I will take” or “I, the Psalmist, shall lift, bear up, support and sustain” “the cup of salvation” which means “the container or portion belonging to deliverance, prosperity and victory”. The Psalmist declared that he would lift up the container that holds deliverance and victory.

The verse continues, “... and call upon the name of the LORD.” The Psalmist added the words, “and call upon the name” or “and proclaim, utter a loud sound and cry aloud upon the fame, reputation and glory” “of the LORD” which means “belonging to Jehovah who is the exiting One and the proper name for the One True God”. The Psalmist proclaimed that he would cry out loudly to the fame, reputation and glory of Jehovah God.

When we consider the Psalmist's words in this verse, we see how he purposed to lift up the portion of Jehovah God's deliverance and rescue, and he said he would cry aloud unto Him. God wants us to have a personal, intimate relationship with Him, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind so that relationship would be possible. When we believe and trust in Him as our “Lord and Savior”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to life up His “cup of salvation” as we live before Him in this world.

Next time the Psalmist says, “I will pay my vows unto the LORD”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
