Paying My Vows to the LORD - Psalms 116:18

In Psalms one hundred sixteen the Psalmist said, “I will offer to you the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the LORD”, and in chapter one hundred sixteen and verse eighteen of Psalms the Psalmist said, “I will pay my vows unto the LORD” where we read,

I will pay my vows unto the LORD now in the presence of all his people,

The verse begins with the words, I will pay my vows unto the LORD now ... The Psalmist began with the words, “I will pay my vows” or “I, the Psalmist, shall make a covenant of complete, finished and ended peace according to my, the Psalmist's, votive offerings and promises” “unto the LORD” which means “toward Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “now” or “at this present time and moment”. The Psalmist said he would complete his promises to Jehovah God at this present time.

The verse goes on to say, “... in the presence of all his people,” The Psalmist continued with the words, “in the presence” or “within the front, sight and face of” “all his people” which means “each, every, the whole and every one of the human beings both male and female who belong to Jehovah God”. The Psalmist said he would complete his votive offerings to Jehovah God at the present time in the sight of every one of Jehovah God's “people”.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist determined not only to perform his votive offerings to Jehovah God, but also to complete them in the view of all God's “people”. God wants us to have a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus whom He sent into the world to die on the cross for our sins. When we yield ourselves to Jesus, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us the ability to complete our “vows” to Him as a witness before other people in the world.

Next time the Psalmist says he would keep his vows, “in the courts of the LORD'S houses”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
