Walking Before the LORD - Psalms 116:9

In Psalms one hundred sixteen the Psalmist said, “Return unto your rest, O my soul; for the LORD has dealt bountifully with you. For you have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, and my feet from falling”, and in chapter one hundred sixteen and verse nine of Psalms the Psalmist said, “I will walk before the LORD” where we read,

I will walk before the LORD in the land of the living.

The verse begins with the words, “I will walk before the LORD ... The Psalmist began with the words, “I will walk” or “I, the Psalmist, shall amble about and make his way” “before the LORD” which means “in the presence, front and countenance of Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. The Psalmist determined to make his way and live within in the presence and countenance of Jehovah God.

The verse continues, “... in the land of the living.” The Psalmist added the words, “in the land” or “within the country, territory, district, region and and world”, “of the living” which means “belonging to people who are alive, active and breathing”. The Psalmist said he would “walk before the LORD” within the world of people who are alive.

When we think through the Psalmist's words in this verse, we see how he purposed to make his way in the world in the presence and countenance of Jehovah God. He knew God was watching him, and because God loved him so much, He would not take His eyes off him. God loves everyone, and He sent His Son into the world to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender our lives to Jesus, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and allow us to “walk” before Him while He watches every moment of our lives.

Next time the Psalmist says, “I believed, therefore have I spoken”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
