The Sacrifice of Thanksgiving - Psalms 116:17

In Psalms one hundred sixteen the Psalmist said, “O LORD, truly I am your servant; I am your servant, and the son of your handmaid: you have loosed my bonds”, and in chapter one hundred sixteen and verse seventeen of Psalms the Psalmist shared about, “the sacrifice of thanksgiving” where we read,

I will offer to you the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the LORD.

The verse begins with the words, I will offer to you the sacrifice of thanksgiving, ... The Psalmist began with the words, “I will offer to you” or “I, the Psalmist, shall sacrifice, give and bestow upon you, Jehovah God” “the sacrifice” which means “the act and offering” “of thanksgiving” or “pertaining to confession, praise and worship”. The Psalmist said he would give and bestow unto Jehovah God the offering of praise and worship.

The verse continues, “... and will call upon the name of the LORD.” The Psalmist added the words, “and will call” or “and shall cry out, shout aloud and utter a loud sound” “upon the name” which means “on the fame, reputation and glory” “of the LORD” or “belonging to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. The Psalmist shared how he would cry aloud unto the fame, reputation and glory of Jehovah God.

When we meditate upon the Psalmist's words in this verse, we see how he not only purposed to give an offering of praise and worship to Jehovah God, but he would also cry out to His fame, reputation and glory. God wants people to have a personal intimate relationship with Him, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for all mankind to prove it. When we humble ourselves, repent of our sins and receive Jesus into our hearts, we will be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and be encourage to offer God “sacrifices of thanksgiving” as we cry out to His “name”.

Next time the Psalmist says, “I will pay my vows unto the LORD”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
