In Psalms one hundred fifteen the Psalmist said, “But our God is in the heavens: he has done whatsoever he has pleased. Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men's hands. They have mouths, but they speak not: eyes have they, but they see not”, and in chapter one hundred fifteen and verse six of Psalms the Psalmist shared about the “ears” and “noses” of the idols where we read,
They have ears, but they hear not: noses have they, but they smell not:
The Psalmist began with the words, “They have ears, but they hear not:”. The Psalmist began with the words, “they have ears” or “they, the idols and images fashioned of silver and gold, own and possess physical ears”, “but they hear not” which means “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover they are unable to receive audible sounds or noise”. The Psalmist referred to the physical ears upon the idols and images fashioned of silver and gold and their inability to “hear” anything at all.
The verse continues, “noses have they, but they smell not:” The Psalmist added the words, “noses have they” or “the idols and images fashioned of silver and gold own and possess physical noses”, “but they smell not” which means “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover they are unable to perceive odors or other scents”. The Psalmist said the idols and images fashioned of silver and gold possess physical “noses”, however they were unable to perceive any odor at all.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist continued to share concerning the physical features of the idols and images fashioned of silver and gold. They had “physical ears”, but they were unable to “hear” any sound or noise, and they had “physical noses”, but they were unable to perceive any scent or odor. O how the weaknesses of both these images and their makers is revealed when they attempt to make their own gods. Jehovah God alone is the “Savior” of mankind, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we submit ourselves to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and keep us from worshiping anything other than Him while He shows us the futility of bowing down to idols.
Next time the Psalmist shares about the, “hands” and “feet” of the idols, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
